Dhamma Giri Vipassana International Academy
Dhamma Giri Rd, Dhammagiri International Academy, Igatpuri, Maharashtra 422403, India
About
Vipassana meditation courses taught in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin by S.N. Goenka form the core practice at this centre on Dhamma Giri Road in Igatpuri near Ghoti. The ancient technique involves observation-based self-purification, beginning with observing the natural breath to focus the mind, followed by observing physical sensations to explore the interconnection between mind and body. Owned and managed by the Sayagyi U Ba Khin Memorial Trust, the academy opened in 1976 and conducts ten-day residential courses. The minimum ten-day schedule gives participants an essential experiential grasp of this non-sectarian method. Facilities on site include meditation halls and a meditation pagoda on the Plateau of Peace featuring individual cells for practice in seclusion. To join a course, you must be healthy, above 18 years of age, and willing to maintain hygiene, follow safety guidelines, and abide by the centre code of discipline during your stay. Visiting hours for the academy run daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
